Star Down’s Syndrome Association

It is estimated that every year at least 750 babies are born with Down’s syndrome in the U.K. Research has failed to establish any direct causes; however, there is a positive correlation between the chance of giving birth to a baby with Down’s syndrome and the age of the mother; the likelihood of giving birth to a baby with Down’s syndrome increases steadily as the age of the mother increases.
